NEW ENGLAND'S KNOWLEDGE CORRIDOR, 2002
Enfield is at the center of the Hartford-Springfield interstate
region which is an integrated economic area that straddles the Massachusetts-Connecticut
border. Almost 1.7 million residents live in the 111 municipalities that compose
this 3.058 square mile region along the Connecticut River. This region is
also commonly referred to as "New England's Knowledge Corridor"
due to its concentration of 27 colleges and universities, whose combined total
enrollment exceeds 125,000 students.

The People
• 1.67 million people live in the Knowledge
Corridor.
• 58.1 percent of people over the age of 5 lived in the same house in2000
as they did in 1995 reflecting stability of the region.
• In 1990, 24.2 percent the regions population had a bachelors degree.
By 2000, the number increased to 28.1 percent. When considering associates
degrees, 35.5 percent of the region's population have a college degree.
• The percentage of adults who did not complete high school dropped
from 22.3 to 17.1 percent between 1990 and 2000.
